As I mentioned in Rounds 1 and 2, these picks will be affected by veteran Free Agency as well as Pro Days and Interviews.
Also, these picks were made based on who I think would improve the teams as a whole, not necessarily BPA.
Compensatory Picks cannot be traded!!!
Round 3
1. Houston Texans
Antonio “Tiny” Richardson – OT – Tennessee
Richardson would be a solid addition in the third round as a fairly experienced SEC OT.
2. Washington
Yawin Smallwood – ILB – Connecticutt
Smallwood was a productive player at UConn and could fill the void left by London Fletcher.
3. Oakland Raiders
Gabe Jackson – OG – Mississippi State
Oakland needs help all over their line and Jackson would give them a reliable starter at OG.
4. Atlanta Falcons
Jeremiah Attaochu – OLB – Georgia Tech
The Falcons did a lot to beef up both of their lines but still desperately need a pass rush.
5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Zach Mettenberger – QB – LSU
After saving this pick by cutting Revis, TB drafts their QB of the future, a Lovie Smith game manager that can make all the throws.
6. Jacksonville Jaguars
Brandon Thomas – OG – Clemson
Thomas is a versatile OL who can play multiple positions on the Jaguars line.
7. Cleveland Browns
Shayne Skov – ILB – Stanford
After releasing D’Qwell Jackson, Cleveland does not seem to have an heir apparent in the middle.
8. Minnesota Vikings
A.J. McCarron – QB – Alabama
McCarron will give Zimmer a Andy Dalton type clone, solid overall QB but not great.
9. Buffalo Bills
Donte Moncrief – WR – Mississippi
Moncrief is a solid, big-body WR who could easily be taken in the second but will be a great addition in the Buffalo offense.
10. New York Giants
Davante Adams – WR – Fresno State
Adams fills the void left by Hakeem Nicks, despite the sporatic production of Reuben Randle, and gives Eli another playmaker on the outside.
11. St. Louis Rams
Bashaud Breeland – CB – Clemson
The Rams would love to have a tough CB like Breeland to pair with Janoris Jenkins.
12. Detroit Lions
Loucheiz Purifoy – CB – Florida
Purifoy is a solid addition to the Lions depleted secondary.
13. San Francisco 49ers (via Tennessee)
Dominique Easley – DT – Florida
The 49ers continue to improve their front 7 with the additon of Easley, a dominant but erratic player at DT.
14. Dallas Cowboys
Will Sutton – DT – Arizona State
Sutton, when his weight is down, is a fantastic penetrating DT and could thrive in Monte Kiffin’s defensive scheme.
15. Baltimore Ravens
Demarcus Lawrence – OLB – Boise State
Reviews on Lawrence are quite random, he has first round talent but would be a steal for the Ravens in the third.
16. New York Jets
Ahmad Dixon – SS – Baylor
Dixon will help the porous Jets secondary and finally give Rex Ryan a playmaker on the back end.
17. Miami Dolphins
Cyril Richardson – OG – Baylor
Miami needs to revamp their entire OL and Richardson could definitely help, assuming the post-season free fall ever stops.
18. Chicago Bears
Victor Hampton – CB – South Carolina
After cutting ties with several CBs, the Bears would be ecstatic to have Hampton join their ranks.
19. Cleveland Browns (via Pittsburgh)
Charles Sims – RB – West Virginia
The West Virginia star could fill a huge void at RB for the Browns.
20. Arizona Cardinals
Trevor Reilly – OLB – Utah
The best way to score more points is to take the ball away from the other team and Reilly has a non-stop motor that will definitely pressure opposing QBs.
21. Green Bay Packers
Ed Reynolds – FS – Stanford
Green Bay needs to replace Charles Woodson at the back of their defense and Reynolds could fill in admirably.
22. Philadelphia Eagles
Jackson Jeffcoat – DE – Texas
Jeffcoat gives the Eagles a solid DE to help get after the QB.
23. Kansas City Chiefs
Billy Turner – OT – Nevada
Turner is a personal favorite of mine, but is snatched up by the Chiefs to provide versatility to an OL that got ravaged in free agency.
24. Cincinnati Bengals
Paul Richardson – WR – Colorado
Richardson would give Andy Dalton a more reliable weapon opposite A.J. Green, but he’d also give Dalton no more excuses.
25. San Diego Chargers
Stanley Jean-Baptiste – CB Nebraska
The Chargers need a big, physical CB like Jean-Baptiste to run their defense.
26. Indianapolis Colts
Terrence Brooks – FS – Florida State
After Pagano’s comments at the recent NFL owners meetings, we all know the Colts are likely to target a Safety in this year’s draft. The value at the position declined greatly after the middle of round 2 and with the Colts giving their 4th round pick to Cleveland this year, the third teir is an even larger drop off.
Brooks is a former CB who has only played safety for the past couple of years. He has tremendous instincts but is shorter than most starting NFL safeties. I’ve personally been a fan of taking a converted CB and moving him to FS because they typically have the speed to play center field. As a bonus, Brooks seems to be a willing and aggressive tackler when given the opportunity, a trait Pagano covets.
27. New Orleans Saints
Travis Swanson – OC – Arkansas
New Orleans needs to replace recently their recently departed starting C and Swanson gives them a guy who could play right away.
28. Carolina Panthers
E.J. Gaines – CB – Missouri
The Panthers need to upgrade their secondary and Gaines gives them a solid developmental CB.
29. New England Patriots
Chris Smith – DE – Arkansas
Smith gives Bill Belichick another solid DL prospect to work with and mold.
30. San Francisco 49ers
Carl Bradford – OLB – Arizona State
Bradford is a personal favorite of mine, and could go significantly higher, but he offers the 49ers a solid OLB prospect who can rush the passer.
31. Denver Broncos
Kelcy Quarles – DT – South Carolina
The Broncos should improve the overall depth on their DL to give their newly acquired defensive talent a chance to really shine.
32. Minnesota Vikings (via Seattle)
Dakota Dosier – OG – Furman
Minnesota should look to solidify their offensive line a bit more with Adrian Peterson needing a bit more room to manuever.
33. Pittsburgh Steelers (compensatory)
Jared Abbrederis – WR – Wisconsin
Another WR goes off the board here as the Steelers try to turn around the Sanders loss.
34. Green Bay Packers (compensatory)
Ego Ferguson – DT – LSU
Ferguson is a massive DT who could likely fill in for B.J. Raji after the Packers don’t resign him.
35. Baltimore Ravens (compensatory)
Josh Mauro – DE – Stanford
The Ravens need to replace Arthur Jones on the DL and Mauro is a big, hard working player who will likely see action right away.
36. San Francisco 49ers (compensatory)
Adrian Hubbard – OLB – Alabama
Hubbard is a rather large OLB and could add much needed depth to the 49er LB corp.
