Justin’s Way Too Early Regular Season 53-Man Roster

Yes I know camp hasn’t even started. Yes I’m aware that the battles in camp will help decide who makes it and who gets cut. I still think that the main 53 guys are pretty clear cut. There will be a few “tweeners” but I feel very good in saying that this will be the 53-man roster going into week one of the regular season.

QB:
1. Andrew Luck
2. Matt Hasselbeck

RB:
1. Frank Gore
2. Daniel “Boom” Herron
3. Josh Robinson
4. Vick Ballard

Some are saying, “What about Tipton? He did very well last year.” He did okay. Ballard is my first “tweener”. If he is healthy he will beat out Tipton. Robinson will at least be given the shot on the opening roster to see if he can contribute.

WR:
1. Andre Johnson
2. T.Y. Hilton
3. Donte Moncrief
4. Phillip Dorsett
5. Duron Carter

This is who I feel the Colts will put on the roster. Carrying six wide receivers is something I could see the Colts doing again since this is quickly becoming a pass first offense.

TE:
1. Dwayne Allen
2. Coby Fleener
3. Jack Doyle

Swoope just isn’t ready yet. It sucks I know but after this season will be his chance to shine when Fleener is gone.

OL:
1. Anthony Castonzo
2. Jack Mewhort
3. Gosder Cherilus
4. Todd Herremans
5. Khaled Holmes
6. Jonothan Harrison
7. Donald Thomas
8. Joe Reitz
9. Hugh Thornton
10. Lance Louis

Yes, 10 offensive linemen. Hopefully this year the Colts will only have to count on 6-7 of them the whole season. Heenan could battle for one of these spots early in camp.

DL:
1. Art Jones
2. Kendall Langford
3. Josh Chapman
4. Zach Kerr
5. Montori Hughes
6. Henry Anderson

This group will be tested early and often. Parry will be available but I don’t think he can push Hughes or Chapman for playing time at the beginning.

ILB:
1. D’Qwell Jackson
2. Jerrell Freeman
3. Nate Irving
4. Henoc Muamba
5. Amarlo Herrera

Much like the defensive line, the inside linebackers will be tested early and often. Not just in defending the run but the pass as well

OLB:
1. Robert Mathis
2. Jonathan Newsome
3. Eric Walden
4. Trent Cole
5. Bjoern Werner

With Mathis’ status still unknown, they will have to keep quite a few bodies to help with the pass rush. Adongo has shown well so far this offseason.

CB:
1. Vontae Davis
2. Greg Toler
3. Darius Butler
4. Sheldon Price
5. D’Joun Smith
6. Deveron Carr

Carr will be the odd man out. He is my next “tweener”.

SS/FS:
1. Mike Adams
2. Dwight Lowery
3. Clayton Geathers
4. Dewey McDonald

The defensive backfield is the best unit on this Colts defense. They will need to have enough people to give breathers when they are needed.

K, P, LS:
1. Adam Vinatieri
2. Pat McAfee
3. Matt Overton

This is what I think the roster will look like at the end of camp and the preseason. Don’t think so? Please shoot me your suggestions at justin.henson82@gmail.com or you can follow me on Twitter @JustinTBF.

  1. I’d bet Carr goes to PS. I’m pretty sure he’s eligible, as he was first signed by TB in 2013. Instead, Colt Anerson takes his spot at S.
