Colts Sign Duron Carter

CarterThis is something I think we all saw coming for a while. The Colts finally made it official yesterday by signing CFL standout wide receiver Duron Carter to a 3 year deal. Carter is a physical specimen at wide receiver, standing at 6’5″ and 210 lbs. with great hands.

Carter had an amazing season this past year in the CFL playing for the Montreal Alouettes. He pulled in 75 balls for over 1,000 yards and seven touchdowns. In 2013 he hauled in just under 1,000 yards and five touchdowns.

Duron Carter is the son of NFL Hall of Fame receiver Cris Carter but the Colts won’t be relying on Duron’s last name to take them to the promise land. Carter will have to work at his craft and continue to grow if he hopes to be an elite receiver like his father. Carter had some issues with college and never really could find a place to call home. He entered the 2013 NFL draft but went undrafted. He didn’t receive any contract offers from NFL teams so he went north where he found a home with Montreal. While there it seems that Carter did some growing up and it became more about the team rather than himself. He didn’t rely on his father’s name to carry him any longer.

With the Colts signing Carter though it makes it tougher to bring back Reggie Wayne. The Colts could be looking at resigning Hakeem Nicks as well which would give the Colts a full stable of receivers for the future. This signing may be the writing on the wall that Reggie’s time in the blue and white are done.

I know I’m not the only one that is very excited about the Duron Carter signing. The Colts and Ryan Grigson have taken shots at troubled players before and they haven’t really panned out very well. If Carter did truly do some growing up then I could see him coming in and challenging for playing time this season. If he can impress enough he may even take time away from the other receivers. Can you image having Donte Moncrief, T.Y. Hilton, Duron Carter, Dwayne Allen and Coby Fleener on the field at the same time? Talk about your matchup nightmares. This is going to be fun to watch for sure. Welcome to Indy Duron. Make yourself at home.
