The 2015 NFL Hall of Fame inductees have been announced and unfortunately Marvin Harrison and Tony Dungy were not selected to be enshrined this year. They were going up against some big names and the thought was that neither would get in this year but we all know they both deserve that honor.
Harrison was going up against Tim Brown this year and Brown has been waiting far to long to be inducted. Harrison has the numbers and even has a Super Bowl ring which is something that Brown doesn’t have. Harrison’s numbers are even better than Brown’s but the there are things that factor into a selection that aren’t about just stats.
Harrison was tangled up in controversy after he retired with a shooting in Philadelphia and that could have put a huge stain on his legacy.
Dungy not being named above guys like Bill Polian and Ron Wolf is a little mind boggling but there was also another amazing coach that was up for induction. Jimmy Johnson coached those amazing Dallas Cowboys teams in the early to mid 90’s and brought three Lombardi’s to Dallas. Dungy has a ring himself but having to put him against Johnson doesn’t really give Dungy a chance to get in until Johnson is there.
One former Colts member was selected. Bill Polian was inducted in the NFL Contributor/Personnel category. Polian had his hand in s many successful teams that it would be a brain fart not to let him in. Polian built three franchises (Bills, Panthers and Colts) into NFL powerhouses during his tenure with each team.
I feel that next year Harrison will find his way into Canton. For guys like Dungy, Edge and other Colts players that could be put up for induction I don’t see it happening for a long time.
