Sunday’s AFC Wild Card playoff game between the Colts and Bengals turned out like many Colts fans had predicted. The Colts won 26-10 sending the Bengals home for a fourth straight year in the first round of the playoffs. With the win, and with the Ravens winning in Pittsburgh, the Colts will now move onto the Divisional Round to face The Sheriff Peyton Manning and his Denver Broncos.
The Colts defense showed up in a big way yesterday. They limited Andy Dalton to just 155 yards passing and held the Bengals running duo of Jeremy Hill and Giovanni Bernard to just 53 yards combined. Now, I will say this as many people already have – the Bengals were playing without a few key players on offense and defense. They were missing A.J. Green and Jermaine Gresham on offense. During the game Rey Maualuga went down with a hamstring injury and they have been missing Vontaze Burfict for the latter half of the season. The Colts defense pitched a shutout in the second half and did a masterful job of getting to the quarterback and breaking up passes at the last moment.
The Colts offense thrived in a major way led by Andrew Luck and Dan “Boom” Herron. Herron showed up big yesterday hauling in 10 passes for 85 yards and rushed for 56 yards on 12 carries. He also added a rushing touchdown on the Colts first offensive drive which was their first touchdown on their opening drive all season. T.Y. Hilton had a case of the “dropsies” as he was targeted multiple times in the first half but only nabbed four catches. He turned it around in the second half and still had a 100+ yard receiving day.
Now it’s onto Denver where the Colts chances of winning are smaller than yesterday. However, I love the matchup. They beat the Broncos last year and gave them a run for their money at the beginning of this season. It’s going to be an entertaining game as Peyton Manning will want to get that bad taste out of his mouth from his last playoff performance in the Super Bowl last season.
